From Fire Damage to a Brand New Kitchen: How SPS Group Construction Helped a South Florida Veteran Rebuild

When a kitchen fire rips through your home, it doesn't just destroy appliances and cabinets. It takes out walls, ceilings, wiring, plumbing, and sometimes the roof above you. For one veteran homeowner in South Florida, that's exactly what happened. What came next was a full-scale rebuild handled from start to finish by SPS Group Construction.

The Scope of the Damage

Kitchen fires move fast. By the time the smoke cleared, this home needed far more than a cosmetic refresh. The fire and subsequent water damage from firefighting efforts had compromised multiple systems throughout the house. The full scope of work included:

Fire and Smoke Restoration

No, those ceilings weren't always black!

Fire damage has layers most homeowners don't expect. There's the visible burn damage, the smoke and soot that penetrates walls and ceilings well beyond the burn zone, and the water damage from putting out the fire. Before any new materials go in, the affected areas have to be properly cleaned, treated, and in many cases rebuilt down to the framing.

East Coast Water & Mold handled the fire and smoke remediation as part of the overall scope, ensuring the structure was clean and sound before any new finishes went in.

Roof Damage: Partnering with Rogan Roofing

After demolition, before the main interior work could begin, the roof had to be addressed. We brought in our partner Jeremiah from Rogan Roofing to handle the replacement. Getting the roof secured first is the only way to protect everything going on inside. You can't finish a kitchen if water is still getting in.

Coordinating roofing alongside interior restoration takes experience. We managed the sequencing, so trades didn't step on each other, and the roof was buttoned up before our interior work went in.

The Kitchen: A Full Rebuild

The kitchen was ground zero. Everything came out, down to the studs, and we built it back from scratch. The finished kitchen features:

• White shaker cabinets with brushed nickel bar pulls throughout

• Quartz countertops and backsplash with a dramatic marble look, warm gold veining running through a white and grey field

• Stainless steel undermount sink with a matching pull-down faucet

• New Whirlpool appliance suite: French door refrigerator, slide-in electric range, over-range microwave, and dishwasher

• Custom tall pantry cabinet flanking the refrigerator for maximum storage

• Recessed LED lighting on new circuits

• Large-format porcelain tile flooring with a marble look that ties into the countertops

The result is a galley-style kitchen that makes smart use of the space. Both runs of cabinetry are fully loaded, the appliances are new, and the whole thing looks like it came out of a high-end renovation magazine. The homeowner went from fire damage to something they didn't even have before the fire.

Electrical and Plumbing

A full kitchen rebuild means new circuits. We ran new electrical throughout the kitchen including dedicated circuits for the range, refrigerator, dishwasher, and microwave, plus updated outlets throughout the space per current code.

Plumbing work included the kitchen sink rough-in and finish, as well as any additional plumbing affected by fire and water damage in other areas of the home.

All work was permitted and inspected.

Whole-House Paint

Once the structural and systems work was complete, we painted the entire interior of the home, including the ceiling. Fresh paint after fire restoration does more than look good. It seals in any residual odor and gives the homeowner a true clean start. Every room came out bright, clean, and ready for furniture.

A Project That Meant Something
